What is the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme?

Recently in February 2023, our honorable Prime Minister laid the foundation stone for introducing one of the most innovative schemes called the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme. This scheme was introduced for the redevelopment and regeneration of 1309 stations all across India. This redevelopment will provide modern facilities for the passengers along with ensuring well-designed inter-modal integration, traffic circulation, and also signage for the guidance of passengers.

Passengers will be fully benefited by this scheme because all the facilities are designed according to passengers’ comfort and preferences. A Total number of 27 states and union territories come under this scheme where out of 1309 stations only a total number of 508 stations are chosen for the redevelopment process under this scheme.

What will be the Benefits of Amrit Bharat Station Scheme?

This Amrit Bharat Station Scheme will bring a drastic change in railway stations. The main goal behind this scheme is to provide top-notch facilities for passengers at railway stations under Atmanirbhar Bharat. There are some advantages of this scheme that is mentioned below:

Urban Development: The redevelopment of stations will lead to a holistic approach to urban development by treating the stations as “City Centres”.

Modern Passenger Amenities: The main aim behind this redevelopment station will feature modern passenger amenities with top-notch facilities on trains such as upgraded waiting rooms, improved seating on platforms along with free Wi-Fi connectivity.

Green Energy and Emission Reduction: This idea of redevelopment of stations will be economically beneficial as well as it is decided that LED lights will be installed in around 70,000 coaches and the substantial increase in the number of bio-toilets in trains by contributing to environmental sustainability.

Net Zero Emissions Goal: Indian Railways had taken an ambitious goal aiming for Net-Zero Emissions by 2030.

Less-traffic Circulation: This approach will lead to less traffic circulation in the area. After the redevelopment of the modern station, both sides of the city will create well-designed traffic circulation, intermodal connectivity along with clear signage for passenger guidance.

The Amrit Bharat Station Scheme was much needed for the development of railway stations. This Scheme had been introduced for long-term vision. The total cost of this scheme is expected 24,470 crore is for providing all the modern and top-notch facilities to the passengers. Indian Railways had taken guarantee that this process of redevelopment of railway stations will lead to well-designed traffic circulation, inter-modal integration along with well-designed signage for passenger guidance.
